      Good question. When anything moves very quickly, air travels past it at the same speed. Because of this, a force is generated and if the force is from below (like when an aeroplane wing moves through the air), eventually it becomes strong enough to be able to lift the object off the ground. If the object continues to move at that speed or go faster, it will carry on moving through the air. Wings are made to do exactly this: they force air below and above themselves so that there is a big force to lift up the wing, plane and passengers!
