Bacteria can be both good and bad. Good bacteria can help in preventing you from being infected with the bad bacteria. This has been shown on your teeth and your skin. If these good bacteria are replaced, this can cause disease. Not only in the body, bacteria also play an important part in allowing plants to grow (they release a chemical called nitrate that plants need). Bacteria have also been shown to promote plants to release antibiotics, these can then be studied by scientists to look at potential medicines that can be given to patients. There are many other examples of when bacteria can be really helpful and they’re not necessarily all bad.
