I believe in the big bang theory. There there is lots of evidence to support it like the fact that the universe is still constantly expanding from the force of the big bang billions of years ago. People are pretty sure that the big bang made it possible for the earth and other planets to form from the giant cloud of dust that resulted from the expansion of, well…. no one knows; something very small and very hot is about the best guess. Gravity gathered the dust together into clumps we call Asteroids. These Asteroids crashed into each other at high speeds and got bigger and bigger. Eventually the planets formed. When they were cool enough life to start and evolve on earth, but no one really knows how it started… It’s still an unsolved mystery.
Lots of scientists do believe in god however even though they believe in the big bang theory and evolution. Religion and a relationship with god are very complicated and personal; they’re not the same for any two people. Knowing about science and accepting the evidence for it’s theories doesn’t mean someone can’t believe in god too, it just might take them a whole lifetime to know how to fit the two together and that’s OK. The world, life and the universe are very complicated and there is no reason that we need to understand them all straight away.
Hi @everyone I’m see this question has prompted lots of discussion… That’s great! As a scientist I read about things that make me completely awe inspired every day… This week thanks to your questions I have been awe inspired by space and gravity and physics. Isaac Newton was a very important scientist who discovered lots of important things about the natural world, most famously gravity. Isaac Newton was also a christian and he found a way to fit his religious beliefs and his scientific discoveries together. He thought that all of the amazing things he saw on earth and in space showed the intelligence of god. Science and religion didn’t always fit perfectly for Newton, but he tried. I think if you want to be a christian and believe in the big bang theory too then there is probably a way.
