The sea has become salty over millions of years because of something we call the water cycle. When rain falls the water runs over the rocks on the ground and some of the minerals dissolve in the water. This water runs into seas where it evaporates to become rain and the cycle begins again. When the water evaporates the salt is left behind in the sea and so over time the seas became full of salt water.
