I do love being a scientist! I enjoy asking questions and exploring new areas which no one has ever thought about before. Generally as a scientist, you are trying to answer a question with your research and this question can be quite large e.g. how is climate change affecting the biology of the oceans? If you can imagine a jigsaw puzzle, the answer to this question would be like completing the jigsaw. My research makes up one piece of the jigsaw puzzle and when we combine all the other pieces of research done by other scientists, we can answer the question and complete the jigsaw.

It’s an absolute pleasure. There are lots of things which are irritating (it’s a job after all!) but I can honestly say it’s never the science that annoys me. The great thing about science is that once you’ve answered one question it opens up loads of others, so you’re always working on something new.
