• Question: how is the moon white

      @mgpninja, I’m not entirely sure why the moon looks white from earth, because it’s actually quite dark coloured in real life:

      The reason the moon looks white to us here has something to do with earth’s atmosphere and the fact that it lets some of the red light that is reflected by the moon pass through it whereas it stops some of the blue light from passing through. If you look at pictures of the moon taken by space craft such as Galileo (above) or Chang’e 3 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-25384057) then it looks kind of brown. This is because to create the pictures light did not first have to pass through earth’s atmosphere.
