      Hi Evie

The same amount of bones as there are in a 60 year old woman and a 5 year old boy = 206 bones!

We will all have roughly the same number of bones in our body throughout our lifetime. The difference in size between you and a toddler or an adult is due to the growth of the bone, not the creation of new bones in your body.

That said, did you know that we are born with more “bones” than we will have later in life? (around 300 instead of 206)

The number of bones in our bodies goes down because several bones fuse together as we grow older making bigger bones (especially in the head). That said, by the time you are 11 you should have the whole set of 206 bones that you will have for the rest of your life.

Question: Do you know where you have the highest number of bones in your body? (actually almost half of all your bones are there!)

HINT: They are the parts of you body that you use the most in your every day life (when walking, eating, playing and even when you are typing into a computer)
