This means you can go into a shop and buy it without a doctor needing to write you a prescription. This means that ibuprofen is seen as safe to use without the supervision of a medical professional like a doctor or nurse. There is a small possibility that there might be some side effects after taking it, but the benefits of the medicine outweigh the risks of the side effects.

Having said this it is always important to carefully make sure that you follow the instructions when taking medicines like ibuprofen. If you take it wrongly or take too much of it you could become very ill or even die.
