• Question: what age were you when you came up with this idea

      Hi @tazponygirl,

      If you mean the idea to become a scientist it was a few years ago, I was 22 and doing a masters (an extra degree you do after you have been to university already). I was doing some research on a kind of bacteria called Neisseria meningitidis (a type of bacteria that causes a disease called meningitis) and I got my first proper scientific results from doing my own experiment, on my own, in a proper research lab. The feeling I got when I looked at those results and thought “I’m the first person to ever see this…” was amazing. From then on I knew that I wanted that to be my job. To find things that no one else has ever seen before. I’m glad I made that decision then because all of the little things that you see, knowing you’re probably the first person to see some of them, make you realise how amazing the world is.
